Rain, Rainbows and a Harvest

Cause what if your blessings
come through rain drops?
What if Your healing
comes through tears?
What if a thousand sleepless nights
are what it takes to know You’re near?
What if trials of this life
are Your mercies in disguise?”

One destination on the list for the day was Cadillac Ranch. We finally made it there after a trip to The Big Texan and Palo Dura Canyon. The skies were overcast and you could see rain way out in the distance. But we went ahead and got the babies out and in their strollers on the dirt road and headed to see the cars. In seconds though, the skies opened up and a massive deluge began to ensue in what seemed to be out of nowhere. Before we could get the babies back in the car and everyone else back to the car we literally looked like we had jumped into a pool. We were soaked. Completely soaked. And because of the dirt road, the stroller was covered in mud as we put it back in the back of the van slinging mud everywhere.

It was a mess.

It was a mess that I could have definitely gone without.

But as we headed out of town later that night, we had eventually all dried off and continued our trip, there was a huge and beautiful double rainbow in the sky.

That beautiful display could not have been there without the rain. And it was such a reminder of the beauty that can come from the rain.

In the community that My brother lives in, it has a lot of farmers. Farmers that have seen years of drought at times and they often pray for rain for the harvest to come and bring forth a good crop.

Rain is hard though. Sometimes it’s unexpected and we get muddy. Sometimes there is the devastation of great storms that bring hail and tornadoes. But without the rain, we wouldn’t have rainbows and a harvest.

There has been a lot of rain in life. Rain that has been unexpected. Rain that left me soaked and covered in mud and unable to see ahead. There have been great storms beyond my comprehension in some of my friends’ life. But through the storms, because of the storms, I know God can use them to bring rainbows to so many and can bring a harvest beyond our understanding for His glory.

And after not seeing any rainbows for long time, within a matter of days I saw two double rainbows. The reminder of God’s faithfulness that I needed.

My prayer is that through the storm, God will bring a great harvest for His glory and that I will continue to be obedient to Him.

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:6-7
